Charlbury's Youth Section |
Charlbury Youth Cricket
The Youth Section offers cricket for children and young adults from 3-17 throughout the summer and has coaching groups for different ages. Youth registration evening is at the cricket club from
6.30pm on Friday 25th April
We will be running some simple cricket-based competitions, plus there will be information available on our progress towards rebuilding the pavilion and it is a chance for children to meet their coaches and friends in the same groups.
The youngest group is for 3-5 year olds, we call them the 'Tots'. Tots training is carried out on Saturday mornings at the cricket club throughout the summer. The group is split into two; with 5 year olds learning the basics of the game and younger children taking part in a rotating series of activities. The emphasis in each group is on children having fun - it is an introduction to sport. Further details will appear on the Tots page.
At the age of 6, children move up to the main youth section, who this year will be training on Friday evenings from 6.30-8.00pm. Children are split up by age, we have groups for Under-9, Under-11 and Under-13; plus a girls group; each is entered in organised leagues and tournaments.
The club has loads of equipment which the children are welcome to use; so if your child is new to the sport there is no need to go to a great deal of expense. This is especially so with the Under-9s who use only 'Kwik Cricket' equipment consisting of plastic bats and lightweight 'windballs'. All you will need is to ensure that your children wear something practical which you do not mind getting a little grubby.
The older groups at Under-15 and Under-17 train on Wednesday evenings with the adult teams; they have their own age-group fixtures but are also encouraged to take part in adult cricket in one of the three men's league teams or the Sunday team.
The girls now have a means of carrying on their sport by taking part in the recently formed ladies team. The ladies train on Thursdays and elder girls are welcome to come to those training sessions too. It is the club's intention to make the transition from beginning as a tot, to youth and then adult cricket as seamless as possible in a friendly community club, with additional support given for youngsters who display a particular aptitude for the sport.
